A Family Business Is Born

Almost twenty-five years ago, David and JoAnne came to that bend in the road where a decision changed the course of their lives. David was a science teacher at Ticonderoga High School. JoAnne taught home economics until their son was born. As with many teachers, they had odd jobs during the summer. Then, one day David had a dentist appointment, and the dentist gave him the news we all love to hear...”this is going to cost a lot.” The dentist, knowing JoAnne and David were a young couple trying to make ends meet, and knowing that David had some landscaping skills, offered to trade the dental work for some landscaping service. That marked the beginning of the landscaping business. In the meantime, while raising their three children, JoAnne offered seamstress services and assisted in the landscaping business. When the children headed off to college, she suddenly found herself with more time on her hands, and JoAnne and David decided to invest in an embroidery machine. So, five years ago, JoAnne and David officially started Sew & Sow...a business offering both embroidery and landscaping services.
